System prompt

Standing instructions that apply to every message in a conversation or project.

The system prompt is where role, audience, tone, definitions and hard constraints belong. Put anything you would otherwise retype into it.

In Claude Projects, Custom GPTs and Gems, the system prompt is what turns a blank chat into a pre-briefed colleague.
